The Complex TTRPG

What is The Complex?

In our reality, "The Complex" is a TTRPG I'm developing, one powered by the Charge system and being created for the Charge Creation Jam. 

You play as a Seeker - a volunteer problem-solving force that tracks down the lost, the feral, and the misguided and brings them to those that can help. 

However, there are rumors of something greater going on, something building in the background, and the Seekers may soon find they are needed for a much larger purpose.

But in another reality..

Strictly speaking, "The Complex" is the colloquial term for the Walsh-Winters Institute's Facility for the Care and Rehabilitation of Furres - but scratch the surface and you'll find so much more.

It's the biggest scientific research project in Asia.

It is the largest walled city on earth.

It has the highest population of Furres.. well, anywhere.

And it is the most well-documented classified location on the planet.

Here is the only place that Furres can freely live, work, and thrive without interference - at least, that's the official take on things. The truth is much different. As long as you follow the rules, you'll be left alone - completely. The powers that be don't see any reason to help those that reside here, so life will be tough, but at least you won't be "interfered" with.

However, once you step up or speak out of turn, you'll be noticed. That's when the Scaleguard shows up. A Security Force mostly made up of Saurians, they will "gently" persuade you to back down. Listen to what they say, take a few beatings, perhaps give a bribe or two.. and then everything will be okay. Resist, and that's when the big guns come in.

The Walsh-Winters Institute Protection Force, or the "whips" as they're sometimes called, is little more than a private army whose only assignment is to keep the peace within The Complex by any means necessary. They treat any complaint - no matter how small - as both a terroristic threat and a personal insult and act accordingly. Once they've been called in, the best thing you can do is get as far away as possible and hide until the shooting stops.

Despite all this, we've managed to eke out a life for ourselves. Commerce is mostly done by trade, power has been restored to most districts, and as long as you're willing to work, there's a place for you. You can find community, friendship - and yes, even love - here in a way you never could in the outside world. With such a varied amount of species, sizes, genders, and types here, there's no room for prejudice or hate.

The Complex is a walled oasis, a paradise in a cage, a prison and a promised land.. and as far as I know, it always will be.
