PIPS: People In Perilous Situations

PIPS is my attempt to make the simple d6 into a basic storytelling device.

Here's the idea: when you need to generate a new NPC, find out what's around the next corner, or are just looking for inspiration, pick up some d6s and start rolling.

The more complex the person, place, or quest, the more d6s you roll.

Each number is assigned to a simple concept, which in turn can be branched into plot beats, personality traits, character stats, or dungeon locations. The concepts are based on the "pips" on each face of a typical d6 so that inspiration can happen quickly and at a glance.

Roll a 1 and a 6 for an NPC and now he's a child with a dark secret. A 4 and a 1 means there's an abandoned campsite outside of the entrance to that dungeon. A 3 and a 5 and, well, you're about to be ambushed by mages.. these are just some of the possibilities.
